In the words of the festival organisers ‘Quality abounds at this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts’ and with music legends Van Morrison, Jools Holland, Sir James and Lady Galway all headlining the Festival who could possibly argue? Now in its 42nd year, the Festival has grown from its classical and opera roots to embrace a wide range of art forms.
Running from 16 – 26 May the Festival will also stage three operas, host a world-class choir and a Russian Gala Concert in venues across Perth, including the stunning Perth Concert Hall, the Edwardian Theatre and the 15th century St John’s Kirk.
Known as “Van the Man” to his fans, critically acclaimed A-list singer-songwriter Van Morrison OBE will play at Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday 22nd May.
For those lucky enough to have secured themselves a ‘Golden Ticket’, Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will return to the Festival to play on Friday 17th May with Special Guest Roland Gift, the voice of Fine Young Cannibals.
Formed in 2007 by singer-song-writer Louis Abbott, rising stars Admiral Fallow will be performing their unique “orchestral folk pop” at Perth Concert Hall on Friday 24 May supported by Dundee band, The Hazey Janes.
The Festival is not only all about big name international stars but also aims to nurture local musical talent. Each year the Festival hosts a recital by a young Perth musician and this year Jessica Hall has been selected to perform a concert in St John’s Kirk on Saturday 18th May.
